Terbuyken

“Outstanding and easy-to-use technology.”

The Terbuyken bread story began in Düsseldorf on 15 August 1895. Since 1993, Peter Terbuyken has been the fourth generation to run the company at its current headquarters in Erkrath. The passion for authentic baking craftsmanship also has a firm grip on him and thus the Rheinische Backkultur Terbuyken is quickly explained: “We do not bake in the shops, but up to 5 times a day fresh from the central bakery. To guarantee that this handmade freshness reaches our customers, our 28 shops in Düsseldorf and Erkrath are all within a maximum radius of 12 km”.

This concept of uncompromising freshness naturally also poses great challenges for shipping and logistics. And yet the issue of a paperless picking system has always been put on the back burner, “even though the advantages had been obvious for a long time. Fortunately, at some point we finally dared to do it,” says head of administration Sebastian Wiza. In the summer of 2022, the dispatch area was due to be rebuilt, which made it necessary to redesign the previous layout, and so the issue was finally tackled in a consistent manner. Among other providers, Pcdata was invited to develop a concept.

Paperless picking system Distrib

For this purpose, Pcdata accompanied the dispatch for one night, analysed dispatch data and calculated layout possibilities. The result was a concept with several picking streets and fully flexible deliveries. Due to the extensive preliminary work, the coherent solution as well as the positive recommendations from colleagues, the choice fell on the paperless picking system Distrib from Pcdata.

Pcdata went into operation at Terbuyken as early as October 2022. Today, Distrib controls the bread/buns, pastry and snack picking streets. The bread/buns and pastry streets are located in the main dispatch hall and are each controlled by their own terminal. In both streets, Pcdata’s DisM2K displays hang above each shop location, showing the respective quantities to be dispatched with up to six colours.

The changeover from a slightly chaotic paper system to a digital picking system has brought real added value to our logistics.“

A digital picking system

Snack dispatsching takes place in a temperature controlled room directly next to the snack production. Here, too, a separate terminal is installed with which the displays of the shops are activated. Since usually only one person picks, smaller single-line and thus very cost-effective displays are installed here, unlike in the main dispatching hall.
After almost a year of using Pcdata, Sebastian Wiza sums up: “The changeover from a slightly chaotic paper system to a digital picking system has brought real added value to our logistics. Also and above all thanks to the excellent and easy-to-use technology and the professional and always reliable support from Pcdata. Right from the start, the Pcdata team gently but comprehensively took us along on the journey and enabled a smooth start to digital distribution. Many thanks for that!”.
